Song cycle for voice and orchestra
Written in 1901-1904
These songs are poems by Friedrich Rückert. They are from a group of 428 poems written in 1833-1834 from an outpouring of grief after the death of Rückert's two children from scarlet fever. They were not intended for publication and were only made public five years after the poet's death.
The voice part is written for a baritone or mezzo-soprano and was premiered by baritone Friedrich Weidemann.
